Two Days

Less than 48 hours until I start. Less than two calendar days.

Today was the last time I’ll see Beth for a while. I’m really glad to have her and so many other people following me and rooting me on. It’s going to be an insane trip and I am so excited.

I’m currently somewhere around the middle of Eastern California, I think not too far from Yosemite. I’m definitely over the Sierra and it looks bonkers outside. Only a few months before I get to see how it develops. But it’s beautiful and snowy and, well, crazy treacherous and impassible right now. I’m glad to be in the air.

I ran into a problem trying to upload journal entries to my website. When I export them from the journaling app to WordPress, the text carries over just fine, even though it needs some formatting touch ups. If there’s an image, though, it only brings the image over to WordPress, and it doesn’t even upload correctly. Furthermore, trying to upload from the WordPress or Jetpack app (two apps, same service) doesn’t work. The images get added to the gallery, but the post doesn’t work.

I think I found a workaround with making my journal as usual, copy-pasting the whole thing to Jetpack, then uploading the photos to the media library in WordPress, then using the journal entry as a reference to which photos need to go where. It’s not too bad because it seems a double space acts as a cue to WP to insert a new block (IYKYK) so I can just pop the media files in there.

Yeah, it’s a pain in the ass but it should get the job done. I’m sure I’ve had supervisors say the same about me.

I was able to knock something off my bucket list! Tahoma (nee Rainier) from the air!

I’ve missed it every time I’ve flown to or from Seattle yet, and I’m so excited I finally go to see her from up here. She’s stunning. I love how her glaciers look like a saddle for some giant entity.

The trip to the airport was leisurely, probably too much so. We stopped for food, left late, and I got to the airport with about 50 minutes left before my prospective boarding time. Security took a while, which is new to me. People were in line panicking, and some guy even managed to cut the line. While waiting, I saw my flight was pushed back about 12 minutes to board, and departure was pushed about the same. I ended up getting to the gate as they were boarding group C, and I was in group E (for Eddie, because obviously the world revolves around me). I had enough time to grab a Smart Water (I’m not that boogie, the water bottle is just compatible with my water filter) and catch my breath.

I’ll be landing in San Diego in about 40 minutes, then I’ll see Dana, hopefully get In N Out, and who knows what after. I could sure as hell use a good karaoke night out.

Tomorrow will be a REI trip to get camp fuel, a new sleeping pad, and then some groceries and sundries for the start.

Fuck. I can’t believe I’m doing it.
