Zero at Cibbets Flat
Today was actually fun! Roberta and I ran to her home outside San Diego to grab some stuff that was delivered for me. We grabbed some burritos for breakfast, some more beer for the other hikers and us, and headed back.
It was drizzly mostly all day. During some sunlight we all gathered outside and talked. Matt took off (I don’t know if I talked about him yesterday, but we only met for a few minutes) to try and make it to Laguna…or at least as far as he could get.
Maor, Freebird, Neil, Roberta, and I hung outside for a bit, then gathered in the big tent when it got colder. When the sun started going down they all went to their respective spots.
We were entertained by a mole poking up out of the ground and finding food and tending to his burrow. I imagine his tunnels got a little wonky with the storms! (Sorry, no image of the mole right now, but maybe soon)
It’s fun chatting with everyone. They’re all so nice, friendly, and smart. It’s so different than so many other experiences.
I’ve been putting my plan to get to Julian together. A shorter day, seven miles and change, tomorrow. A 15er the following day to skip the campgrounds around Laguna, then another longer day, and a short one to get to the road crossing and hitch or get picked up to Julian nice and early on the 26th.
Roberta has been an absolute bastion of help out here, especially with this weather. I hope this is the last time I have to hunker down and take a trail-zero for a while. But it probably won’t be.
