Hooray zero days!

And holidays!

Today was super fun. Nonny took off early to secure a spot at the park for us. We planned to join her around 2 pm.

I ran to the grocery store to get my resupply. It wasn’t bad — I’ve definitely had worse selection with higher prices. But it wasn’t ideal. I couldn’t get any chicken pouches, just summer sausage and tuna packets. Ugh. Tuna.

I ran around town looking for some small things: hand sanitizer, nail polish, a mini sewing kit, and some other minor but helpful items. Between the Rite Aid, a CVS that was a pharmacy with a tiny incidentals shop on it, and the grocery store, I got most of what I needed. But it’s a pain in the butt to have to shop in multiple places when you have to walk everywhere!

Swiss Cheese and I went to Black Bear Diner for a late breakfast and we picked up some food for Nonny.

It was so good. I freaking love diner food. Seriously, pancakes, eggs, and hash browns fill my soul up with so much joy.

We headed back to the room to pack everything up. On the way there we ran into the tail end of the Independence Day parade. There was a lull in it, so we ran across the street to get to the hotel. The tractor, that was in the parade, behind us, honked at us.

Still, no invite to a cookout despite my friend Devin talking me up on Facebook the day before.

We packed everything up and headed to the park. Nonny was hanging out at a beautiful spot. There was a water spigot nearby, a grill, lots of shaded grass, and a picnic table. We love a picnic table. It’s the pinnacle of dining luxury when we’re on trail.

I laid out my tent, some clothing, and my bug net and treated it with permethrin I had mailed to me. This is a chemical which bonds to fabrics when it dries and kills insects (like mosquitoes and ticks) that land on it for up to six weeks. I let Eva, Swiss Cheese, and Nonny use the last of the permethrin bottle after I got my stuff treated. Hopefully it helps!

Then we started the cookout. We had some hard seltzers and some beer. I started the grill and cooked up two burgers for everyone. It was just a great time out.

After the cookout, Eva and Swiss Cheese went to do their resupply. Nonny and I went to see the new Indiana Jones movie and we both really enjoyed it.

As we walked back to the hotel, we saw a train coming along the tracks that we have to cross for the shortcut to get back there. It was Nonny’s first time being that close to a train thundering by. It’s such a rush to feel that massive amount of mechanical energy and force shaking the ground and vibrating the air. It’s enthralling.

The train passed, we got back, and it was time for bed.
