Ahhhhh I love sleeping in. And not having to worry about waking up early. Though I super don’t love road noise. At least my room was on the opposite side of the building from the train tracks. The trains come through regularly here.
I got up, slowly, and lazed. Then I went outside and paid my still damp tent out in the backyard (courtyard? Side yard?) of the hotel. There were hooks on the fence to hang things, as well. I got everything hung up in the morning sun and it was drying fast.
While it dried, went inside and took all of my cookware to the sink in the guest kitchen area of the hotel and cleaned everything — my pot, chopsticks, spatula-spoon, and water bladders.
I took off to the local coffee and sandwich shop LouSkis Deli. I got a decaf coffee and some pastry. It was nice. I wandered around a bit more, and laughed at the name of the laundromat.
I headed back to the hotel and talked with a few hikers who had wandered in, took my stuff off the wall and packed it, so as to make space for them to hang their gear.
I sat outside talking with a few locals, one who had her small dog with her, while I looked at property listings to rent in Tucson. I also spent some time updating my resume on a few job sites and looking at places that were hiring. I sent out a few “I’m interested in this job” queries on Indeed and talked with a few travel recruiters.
Around 3 I got hungry, so I went to back to the bar I was at last night, Whistling Post Saloon, and got a big salad. Oof I love me some veggies. And I got a coke.
The salad really hit the spot and got me feeling a lot better.
I went back to my room and charged my phone back up a bit, then wandered back to LouSkis for a sandwich for dinner.
Today was a lot of puttering around and wandering. It was really kind of nice. I needed a day to be bored and to do job and rental nonsense on my phone. I’m excited to get back to Tucson but I really, really don’t want to be done with my hike. I’m enjoying this too much.
Soon it was dark. I grabbed a beer and hung out a little bit, talking with locals at the bar. On my way back to the hotel there was a commotion. A local, known for his alcoholism, had fallen off his bike and was trying to get back up to ride somewhere to drink more. A couple other locals were trying to convince him not to ride anywhere and to walk it off over to where he could be safe. I helped them keep this guy safe, and eventually he was walking his bike on his way.
Once I got back to the hotel, only two doors down, I went to bed pretty quickly. My body was tired and I needed more rest. It was nice to have a bunch of showers and a lot of rest.
