The day on trail
I’m loving these higher mileage days. Fifteen miles and under leave me with too much energy to rest fully. Getting to camp with less energy is ideal because I know I’m going to sleep so well.
Today was all about changes in wilderness areas and super cool flora! It started off with spotting a brilliant yellow slime mold!
These have been shown to display rudimentary intelligence. Japanese scientists put a slime mold on a medium with food around it in approximately the same areas representing the biggest cities in Japan on a map. The mold ended up making networks to the food the approximated the Japanese rail system, often noted as being one of the most efficient in the world.
These things defy what we know living organisms as. And finding them in the wild is so cool!
There were beautiful views, a plaque, and a tree that looked like a Simpson character.
There was this russula brevepipe pushing up from the ground.
And then Nonny and I crossed into a new wilderness area. Trinity Alps Wilderness!
There was allegedly a spring to refill water from right near that sign. Nonny continued on while I searched for this spring.
I couldn’t find the supposed spring. What I did find was an entire field of California pitcher plants! I love carnivorous plants and it was super cool to see my first ones in the wild.
Continuing on there were some signs and blazes.
There was a few brief patches of snow to cross, and I was really glad it was just that and not fields of snow.
While continuing on, there were more views. I don’t know what’s going on with my camera and these lighted bands.
I crossed into a burn zone and saw a fallen sign.
Shortly after, we got to camp. It’s nice and warm with no chance of rain, so I left the rain fly off.
Cookie and Flamethrower camped across the trail from me, Nonny set up next to me.
